From Sapa town, by following the main road, before turning right to a foot path downhill, travelers will depart for an about 30-minute walk to Muong Hoa Valley. If the weather is nice enough, of course, people can have a great opportunity to observe the Fansipan Peak, the highest part of Hoang Lien Son mountain range. By following a suspension bridge, you then will go uphill to Y Linh Ho village, where all visitors can explore beautiful houses of H’mong people and get a closer insight into their daily activities. After climbing up and down the hills for few hours, you will get access to Lao Chai- one large village of H’mong people, and then Ta Van- the area which is inhabited by Zay communities. To find out more about the unique culture of ethnic people by sharing their meals or discovering local homes and schools, you can choose to stay at Ta Van for a night.

And then, tourists can take the trail uphill the next morning. Before getting to a bamboo forest and a waterfall, you will pass through dreamlike terraced rice fields. After 1.5 hours hiking, you can reach the top of the hill looking down Muong Hoa River where you can visit village of Giang Ta Chai- Red Dao people, or reach Hau Thao Village after crossing another suspension bridge and walking uphill.

Since requiring a few days to complete the hike, the most challenging route for tourists is to trek to the top of Fansipan Peak- the Roof of Indochina. It is difficult to trek by yourselves, therefore, you need to have a local experienced guide and porter who understand the route well, accompany with you.

Travelers can follow the itinerary of going through Cat Cat Village, crossing Muong Hoa River and trekking upward for almost7 hours, to reach the first campsite at an elevation of 2300m. Since tourists trek through the bamboo forests and Arrowroot plantations, the terrain from the first campsite will become steeper and make it more difficult to hike. It is common for rverybody to spend their night sleeping in bamboo hut or tent.
